Can we talk Frankly?
Did you know our bodies have BUILT in detoxification pathways? We are DESIGNED to detox naturally EVERY SINGLE DAY (sorry, not yelling – just emphasizing)
The trick is to SUPPORT those pathways by giving our bodies the phytonutrients, minerals and fatty-acids we need in order for them to do their job.
rules of clean eating
1- lean organic protein (palm size)
2- 2+ servings of veggies at each meal
3- use those awesome culinary herbs and spices
4-detox supportive carbs – whole grains, root veggies, squash.
Is your plate full of natural colors? If so – you are on the right track!!
Don’t get me wrong, an occasional (maybe twice a year) a cleanse can be helpful at the change of seasons – spring & fall, not the darkest and coldest time of the year after we’ve spent a few weeks staying up late, eating too many sweets and probably stressing more than usual.
Right now its best to focus on super charging daily meals to replenish your system with nourishing foods and drinks.
This rest of this week I’ll be highlighting some of the best foods and herbs to incorporate into your diet to help support those pathways – but today I wanted to share a little tip I have used several times this holiday season.
Headache Busting Berry Blast
1/4 cup frozen organic cherries (#costcoforthewin)
1/4 cup blend of frozen organic blueberries, black berries and strawberries,
2 ounces of pomegranate juice,
1/2′ slice of fresh ginger
1-2 tsp of turmeric or 1/2″ fresh turmeric root
and a dash of cinnamon
add water to desired consistency
Blend
(I like mine thin, not thick like a smoothie – so adjust liquid to your preference)
Berries are high in ellagic acid and phytonutrients that decrease inflammation and support detoxification.
Pomegranate juice is also cardio protective and supports detox pathways
Turmeric and ginger are both liver protective, anti-inflammatory and help excrete toxins,
Cinnamon also helps with pain and inflammation
