Ever feel like your WHOLE SYSTEM could use a BOOST?
In Traditional Herbalism we call that “Deficient Qi” – and one of the best herbs in the world for boosting that deficient Qi is Astragalus.
While it is rarely used alone – it is quite often one of the main herbs in formulas to replenish the weary and the weak.
It is also used all over the world to boost the immune system in preparation for cold and flu season – astragalus is the main herb in Jade Screen Powder, which is a highly regarded formula that helps protect against cold, flu and other viruses.
Modern research shows that it promotes DNA repair, strengthens and protects the lungs (it has great evidence for improving airway dysfunction and chronic asthma), heart, GI tract, kidneys and blood and helps reduce triglycerides and blood pressure– like the many other herbs I’ve highlighted the past two weeks – it also helps the body to deal with stress more effectively. And that’s just barely brushing the surface of all the benefits modern research is backing up why herbalists have treasured this herb thousands of years.
PLUS- to top it all off, this herb is deliciously sweet!! It may look like a bunch of rough strips of bark, but it is such a fun addition to teas, chai’s and formulas – I love to add it to my morning cacao, mushroom, dandelion & chicory blend.
Morning Cacao Blend:
1 part Crio Bru (or other roasted cacao bean)
1 part chaga
and/or 1 part Reishi mushroom slices
1 part astragalus slices – (slices are my preferred way to go for tea, the shreds are super messy)
half a cinnamon stick if desired
place in a french press, add freshly boiled water and cover
I also love to add it to a similar blend of:
crio bru or cacao powder
with a dash of cardamom
*There are some auto-immune diseases that astragalus may not be appropriate for, and is often contra-indicated for those on immuno-suppresants, (but not always) – so please check with a qualified herbalist and your healthcare provider if you have either of these conditions. You can always schedule a free 15 min call with me if you are wondering if its right for you!*
